Idea: Social Running Platform
There are already countless running apps with all kinds of features, but I’ve never heard of one that has this particular feature/approach, so here we are.
A platform for tracking one’s running progress, but it incorporates a real-time motivational feedback based on the mutual tracking of progress and activities of other humans.
^ could also include other workout stats, but I’ll stick with running for now.
So, people sign up for this platform - supported by apps on smart watches and phones - and pair-up with their friends, people they meet on the social forums of the platform, or even celebrities.
Here’s how I imagine it working:
The daily runs of those you pair with are measured and recorded
As you run, you hear a voice come over your music/podcast/audiobook telling you different stats and motivational observations about yourself and those you’ve paired with.
(content is played through the app - linked to all major streamers)
For example:
You just passed the mark of the end of your very first run - can you believe you used to be so tired at this point that you had to stop?! Look at you go!
If you can make it just five more minutes at this pace, you’ll increase your monthly average by x%!
[your friend], [YouTuber you watch], or [celebrity] couldn’t make it 10 more minutes at this pace - can you?
If you can increase the pace by 10% for 5 minutes, you’ll improve the average of [your coop friend group] to make it your best month yet!
Out of all the people you follow, you’re in fifth place for the month - let’s get you to fourth!
If you keep up this pace, you’ll beat your all-time 5k record!
You’ve burned 675 calories so far - that’s the equivalent of [food]
Bonus idea: Users who reach certain milestones could hear a message from a celebrity they follow. The celebrity themselves could set this goal and either share it on their socials, or keep it secret and those who reach it would get a sudden surprise.
That’s it. That’s the idea I had that I thought was worth sharing.
It might already exist, of course, but it was fun to explore the concept, regardless.
I’m gonna go for a run. <- lies.
